At The Country Club, Brookline, Mass., William C. Fownes, Jr., from Oakmont (Pa.) Country Club, was two down to Chick Evans with four to play in the semi-final round and defeated him, 1 up. He went on to win the Championship by defeating Warren K. Wood, 4 and 3, in the final, Fred Herreshoff was medalist with 152. Mr. Fownes later became President of the USGA.
