1929
Harrison R. Johnston
A great upset shook the tournament in the first round: Johnny Goodman,
of the Omaha (Neb.) Field Club, stopped Jones, only to be stopped by a
newcomer, W. Lawson Little, Jr., of the Presidio (Calif.) Golf Club, in
the next at the Pebble Beach, Calif., course, the first USGA Championship
on the Pacific Coast.
Harrison R. (Jimmy) Johnston, of the White Bear (Minn.) Yacht Club,
won the title from Dr. O.F. Willing in the final, 4 and 3. Jones and Eugene
V. Homans tied for the medal.
