Ryan Moore Wins Last Four Holes; Claims U.S. Amateur Title, 2 Up

Mamaroneck, N.Y. - Ryan Moore, 21, of Puyallup, Wash., won the last four holes, three of them with birdies, to overtake Luke List, 19, of Ringgold, Ga., and win the U.S. Amateur championship Sunday at Winged Foot Golf Club, 2 up.

"Coming down 17 and 18 in the afternoon, I knew I had to make birdies," said Moore, who made birdie putts of 10 and 6 feet on the last holes to close out List on the 7,266-yard West Course, the longest course in Amateur history.

"Going into the back side, I knew I had to make some birdies. He was playing so solid that the only way I could win holes was to make birdies. I was close all day, and I knew I was going to make some putts coming down the stretch. I know I can close as good as anyone."

Ryan Moore defeated Luke List 2 up in Sunday's 36-hole final match to win the 104th U.S. Amateur Championship at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y. (John Mummert/USGA)

List Checks Out of Amateur

Mamaroneck, N.Y. - The torturous look was chiseled on Luke List's face.

As a Winged Foot custodial crew hastily constructed the ceremonial dais and table on the 18th green after Ryan Moore won the U.S. Amateur, List silently walked to his bag, took off his hat and tried wiping away the pain. The white towel rubbed across his head as if erasing a chalkboard. To no avail, List couldn't expunge the disappointment.

Mission Accomplished: Moore's Accomplishment Astounding

Mamaroneck, N.Y. - Ryan Moore's run is complete.

What began with winning the NCAA Championships in May, included triumphing at the Western Amateur and U.S. Public Links in between, came to a dramatic finish Sunday by winning the 104th U.S. Amateur Championship on Winged Foot Country Club's West Course. Moore, 21, of Puyallup, Wash., never led any of the first 34 holes against Luke List, then finished birdie-birdie to win 2 up.
