When William P. (Willie) Turnesa won, he was reported to have been in bunkers on 13 of 29 holes of the final. Turnesa was the only Amateur in a family of seven brothers-all golfers. He defeated B. Patrick Abbott, of Altadena, Calif., 8 and 7, in the final.
