1937
Johnny Goodman of Omaha, then 28, a former Open Champion, defeated Ray
Billows, 2 up, in the final. For the first time since 1933 a 36-hole qualifying
competition was conducted at the Championship site in addition to sectional
qualifying to determine the 64 who would compete in match play at the
Alderwood Country Club, Portland, Ore. This was the first time the championship
had been held in the Pacific Northwest.
