When the Championship was revived in 1919, S. Davidson Herron, 20 years old, became one of the few to win on his home course, the Oakmont Country Club, near Pittsburgh. Herron's play was brilliant and he was four under 4s when he finished off Bob Jones, 5 and 4, in the final. The entry reached 150.
