H. Chandler Egan repeated at the Chicago Golf Club. Dr. D.P. Fredericks
of Oakmont was medalist with 155. The USGA introduced the Calkins system
for calculating handicaps, based on par, to provide a basis for eligibility
and reverted to the 1898 system of 36 holes qualifying for 32 places.
The August event produced an all-Chicago final with Egan defeating D.E.
Sawyer, 6 and 5.
