A new method was tried with 18-hole qualifying for 64 places. Louis
N. James, of the home club, just squeezed in with the highest score of
94, while Travis had a 79.
Travis went out in the third round and James won the Championship from
Eben M, Byers, 4 and 2, in the final over the Glen View Club course, near
Chicago, in July. James was 19 years and 10 months old.
