With a field of 120 in the Championship, a new method of 36-hole qualifying
for 32 places was used. Findlay S. Douglas, of the Fairfield County (Conn.)
Golf Club, a native of St. Andrews, Scotland, and later president of the
USGA, took the title at the Morris County Golf Club, in Morristown, N.J.
in September. Douglas defeated W.B. Smith, of Chicago, 5 and 3, in the
final.
