Seventeen years had passed since Francis Ouimet had won the title. He took it again at the Beverly Country Club, in Illinois, defeating Jack Westland in the final, 6 and 5. Sectional qualifying at 20 cities was tried for the first time, with success. The entry reached 583 and Sectional Qualifying was conducted at 20 locations.
