Max Marston from Pine Valley Golf Club, in New Jersey, winner of the New Jersey and Pennsylvania state titles, was 31 when he beat defending Champion Sweetser at the 38th hole, after having eliminated Jones and Ouimet, at the Flossmoor Country Club in Illinois. Evans and Jones were co-medalists.
