1920
The entry unexpectedly jumped to 235 in 1920, and 16-hole qualifying
had to be conducted at both the Engineers Country Club, Roslyn, N.Y.,
site of the Championship proper, and nearby North Shore Country Club.
The entry record would stand until 1931.
Jones won the medal in a playoff with Fred J. Wright, Jr. Evans defeated
Ouimet, 7 and 6, for the title with great iron play and putting. Cyril
Tolley and several other Britishers failed to qualify.
